• 6/4/2018 State Mosquito Monitoring Program Begins Testing for Mosquito-Borne Viral Diseases

  The State of Connecticut Mosquito Management Program today announced it is monitoring mosquitoes for the presence of viruses that can cause illness in people including West Nile virus (WNV) and eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEE).

• 6/25/2018 Peak Tick Abundance and Increased Infection with Lyme Disease Reported Statewide

  The Tick Testing Program at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) is reporting peak tick abundance throughout the State at this time, and higher than average infection with Borrelia burgdoferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease.

• 6/29/2018 Fourth-of-July Weekend Beachgoers Asked to “Fish, Swim, and Play from 50 Yards Away” of Bird Nesting Areas

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is asking the public to help protect birds that nest in coastal areas by staying at least 50 yards away from places where large concentrations of birds are gathered and avoiding areas that are roped off or marked with signs designating nesting locations.

• 5/31/2018 Annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) urges residents to keep a tally of all sightings of hen turkeys and poults (young-of-the-year) from June 1 through August 31 as part of the Wildlife Division’s Annual Wild Turkey Brood Survey.

• 5/21/2018 Monday Update on State Parks Impacted by Last Week’s Storm

  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) State Parks Division over the weekend continued work to clear the damage at the four state parks impacted by last Tuesday’s storm. DEEP announced that Squantz Pond State Park has reopened as of today. Sleeping Giant and Wharton Brook will remain closed through the holiday weekend, no timeline has been set on when those two parks will reopen.

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that during the 2017 boating season, pumpout facilities and pumpout vessel programs removed a record level of more 1.347 million gallons of recreational marine sewage from vessels in Long Island Sound and Candlewood Lake.
